nix profile install nixpkgs#easyeffectsThe practical answer to “my microphone sounds bad” on Linux. EasyEffects inserts a processing chain on your input, so a gate, compressor and EQ apply to every application at once rather than being configured per app.
The chain worth starting with is gate, then compressor, then EQ, then a limiter. Noise reduction is tempting to max out; resist it, since aggressive settings are what produce the underwater artefacting that is more distracting than the noise was.
It works on output too, which is occasionally useful for taming loud game audio relative to your voice.
